Great lady and a great teacher! Prayers for the family.
I began teaching in the College of Education at SIU Carbondale in 1971. Janice Cook was a student in one of my classes in the early 1970's. There are not a lot of students that my nearly 80 year old mind can recall from my 28 years of teaching at SIU; Janice is certainly one. A year or so after she was in one of the classes that I taught, she taught our son, Mark Shepherd. (It may have been when he was in the Archway Program. Mark, now 54, is disabled by autism, Tourette's Syndrome and visual issues.) Some years later, at her invitation, I did an in-service session for teachers in Louisville IL. I grew up in Edwards County. My wife, Wilda (Milner) grew up in the Geff, IL community. As I recall, we had some conversations about Tim Keith's store in Rinard. Janice was a special and dynamic teacher and advocate for her pupils. I am sure she will be missed by many. She has a special place in my memory; she was a blessing to our family.
We have known Ms Cookie for many years, and oh what a wonderful gal she was! She would brighten your day with her contagious smile! She will be missed by many! Love ya gal!
