Funeral Ceremony: 2 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora
Interment: Powers Cemetery, Xenia
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening September 5, at the funeral home
Vera C. Denton, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, fought the good fight of faith all of her life and won when she went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at 11:41 p.m. at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Vera Christine Brown on August 29, 1942, to Okley and Bessie Brown in Xenia, Illinois. On June 2, 1959, she married the love of her life, Joe Denton, and they spent 59 crazy, beautiful years together before he went to Heaven in 2017.
The had 3 children: Joey Denton (Holly) of Flora, Tammy Foster (Kevin) of Olney, and Kelly Denton of Effingham; grandchildren: Rachel Walker (Shane), Ben Denton, Matthew Monical, Kalin Monical, and Jesse Denton; great-grandchildren: Kamry, Dani, Makayla, Eli, and Harper.
Vera lived life passionately and dearly loved her family. She took great pleasure in cooking marvelous meals for all of them especially at the holidays at which time she festively decorated her home as well as the homes of others. She enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years such as designing and sewing western shirts, buying and selling antiques, setting up at the flea markets, creating flower arrangements, going to rummage sales, and most of all, gardening. It is an understatement to say she had a green thumb because she could grow anything, anywhere. Throughout the years, Vera created her own beautiful garden and had every flower imaginable, but she especially loved her day lilies of which she had all kinds. One of her proudest moments was when her friend, Jason Delaney from the Missouri Botanical Gardens created a hybrid lily and named it the “Vera Denton.” She was truly a remarkable woman who could do anything she set her mind to do. To describe her as a hard-working, strong, independent woman is putting it mildly. She had a heart for Jesus and served him faithfully for many, many years. She was very instrumental in multiple fundraisers held by her church and sold many chicken and noodle dinners made by her own precious hands. Vera was an avid Trump supporter and was deeply patriotic. She is a beautiful soul loved so much by so many and will be deeply missed, however, Heaven is rejoicing and so is her lifelong soulmate as they are now reunited eternally.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Joe Denton; grandson: Schyler Monical; 3 brothers: Junior Brown, Larry Brown, and Henry Brown; a sister: Janice Workman; and a brother-in-law: Jerry Young. In addition to her children and grandchildren she is survived by a sister: Dixie Young; and a brother-in-law: Larry Workman.
A funeral ceremony will be held in Vera’s honor at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Powers Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening September 5, at the funeral home. In accordance with an Illinois mandate, face masks will be required, and social distancing is recommended. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a memory or condolence visit: www.frankandbright.com

I have many wonderful memories of Vera and Joe. Their wonderful, loving welcoming personality ‘s were evident with every meeting of them. In my memories are many walks in her yard looking at her flowers and enjoying great food at their table. Their fish fry’s were legendary. My sympathies to the family as I know the void left by Vera’s passing will be great. But the memories of a beautiful lady who loved her family and God will get you through. You may not know who I am but know that your mother left a lasting impression on me for her loving beautiful heart.
