Richard Bruce Sparlin, age 79, of Flora, IL passed away at 7:03 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Clay County Hospital in Flora.

Bruce was born on May 28, 1933 in Flora to R.O. and Cora (Smith) Sparlin. He married Janice Snell on December 23, 1959 in Flora. Bruce was retired from the City of Flora and was a past furniture hauler for Allied, United and R.O. Sparlin. He served in Germany as a truck driver in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bruce was also a past member of the Flora American Legion and the Flora VFW.

He is survived by his wife: Janice Sparlin of Flora; children: Brenda (Mike) Ronzheimer of St. Elmo, Lisa Myers of Washington, PA, Darrell (Genay) Sparlin of Flora; 5 sisters: Virginia Johnson of Olney, Vera (Tom) Craig of Flora, Kathryn (Dick) Lepley of Lima, OH, Martha Lewis of Clay City, Clara (Sam) Booth of Flora; 1 brother: Ben Sparlin of West Salem; along with 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers and sisters.

The funeral service for Richard Bruce Sparlin will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
