Graveside Ceremony: 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery
Lee Roy Cruse, age 88, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, December 1, 2020, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
He was born April 9, 1932, in Louisville, Illinois, the son of Ozro and Faye (Coatney) Cruse. He was united in marriage to Lorene Spiker on August 19, 1954, in Louisville, and together they shared 54 years of marriage until her death June 18, 2009.
Lee Roy served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at the shoe factory for 27 years and then for the City of Flora for over 20 years without missing a single day of work. He was a dedicated worker and truly enjoyed his last years working for the City at Charley Brown Park.
He is survived by his children: Rick (Debbie) Cruse of Morrisonville, Kathy “Gertie” (Jay) Griffith of Louisville, and Ronnie (Amy) Cruse of Highland, Indiana; grandchildren: Sara Griffith, Rikki Ann Holding, Crystal Hatley, Christopher Cruse, Stephanie Hawkins, Amanda Cruse, Jessica Simmons, and Riley Cruse; several great-grandchildren; a sister: Mary Whitworth of Selah, Washington; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lorene Cruse; great-granddaughter: Alyssa Holding; sisters: Ruby Eckel, Helen Woodruff, Rita Drake, and an infant sister; and brothers: David Cruse, Lyle Cruse, Dale Cruse, Archie Cruse, and an infant brother.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home. My dad, Jr. King, also worked for the City and that is how I knew Lee Roy. He was such a kind and nice man, always a smile and friendly. My condolences to you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Kathy & family - I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. He always had a smile, and he would always wave. Lost touch with him and then my daughter Tammy worked at nursing home and what fun we had. Then I started playing the piano at nursing home and he would always be out there and we would have our little talks afterwards. Prayers.

Rick, Kathy and Ronnie, I am so sorry to see your dad has passed away. My Dad loved having him at the Charley Brown Park. That group of men cleaned that Park up or it would not look like it does now. He was a great honest hard working man and he loved you kids as much as you all loved him. I love you all and a part of our Park Family always. ❤

I have fond memories of Leroy and Lorene as our neighbors back when I was a kid in the old neighborhood. He was a good man!

LeeRoy & became good buddies over the past 6 years while I cared for him as one of his nurses, I believe he cared for me also. I will miss him!

Ruthie and I always enjoyed visiting with Lee Roy when we were able to visit the veterans at the nursing homes. We always made sure he had puzzles and other little things he might need. A delightful man he was. Our deepest condolences are extended.
