Graveside Ceremony: 1 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Russell Cemetery in Wayne County
Ronald "Ron" E. King, age 77, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 31, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
He was born July 6, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Charles E. King Jr. and Marjorie I. (Palmer) King. He married Mary Farmer in a wedding ceremony at her home in Flora, officiated by her grandfather on November 29, 1963.
Ron was a 30-year employee of World Color Press in Effingham where he was head pressman. He was a dedicated member of First Southern Baptist Church of Flora where he served as deacon and volunteered to help wherever possible, especially with the upkeep of the grounds. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, and the companionship of his dogs, especially a beagle and lab. Ron was a caring father, grandfather, and husband, and he and Mary were often seen together on their daily drives to the country. “The world needs more people like Ron King,” was a simple and sincere sentiment shared by a special family friend that will really resonate with everyone who knew him.
Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years: Mary King of Flora; 2 daughters: Karla King of Flora and Angie Ellerbeck of O’Fallon; a grandson: Luke Ellerbeck of O’Fallon; 2 brothers: Herb (Kay) King of Carlyle and Kenneth (Judy) King of Salem; 2 sisters-in-law: Connie King of Riverton and Grace Miller of Muncie, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law: Mark Ellerbeck; a brother: Charles Edward King III; mother-and-father-in-law: Bill and Genell Farmer; and a brother-in-law: Richard “Dick” Farmer.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Russell Cemetery in Wayne County with Bill Thompson officiating. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance gift, and these may be given to either First Southern Baptist Church of Flora or Cornerstone Farms, 1711 State Route 4, St. Jacob, IL 62281. To share a condolence or memory with the family, visit: www.frankandbright.com

Mary so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and family.
Ron and Mary and Karla and Angie provided me a 'second home' first when I was in elementary school at Seminary School and then later on in High School. I am forever grateful for their kindness and good natured acceptance. I ate SO much of their food and I was over-the-top competitive in all the board games we played, but they took it all in stride and I always felt safe and loved in their home. I would just drop by with no notice and never once was I not welcome. The world needs more people like the Kings.
We are so sorry you have lost Ron. He was a wonderful man of God. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.❤🙏
