Graveside Ceremony: 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora

Pat Brandon, age 89, of Flora, Illinois, passed away early Saturday morning, March 20, 2021, at her home.
Born Patsy R. Whitfield on March 23, 1931, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Audra D. (Jerman) Whitfield. She was united in marriage to Sam L. Brandon on December 20, 1952, in Cyril, Oklahoma.
Pat was a 1953 graduate of Oklahoma College for Women, earning a degree in Speech Therapy. Pat worked in Clay County Schools as a remedial reading educator. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Flora where she was involved with WMU, and she had been active in the Red Hat Society. Pat and Sam enjoyed travel and sightseeing. She treasured time spent with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Sam Brandon of Flora; 2 daughters: Lizbeth (Jeff) Strubhart of Flora and Susan (Joe) Vivonetto of Naples, Florida; 4 grandchildren: Melissa (Kenny) Reese of Carterville, Brandon (Jamie) Mills of St. Charles, Missouri, and Peter Vivonetto and Sam Vivonetto of Naples, Florida; 4 great-grandchildren: Brady Bagwell, Rylan Mills, Adleigh Mills, and Christian Reese; a sister: Juanita Hicks of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law: Sandy Darden of Lewisville, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Charles Whitfield; a sister: June Whitfield; and a sister-in-law: Charlene Clift.
A graveside ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora with Bill Thompson officiating. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church or Clay County Hospice, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. Sue Jane and Liz... I just learned of yr mothers passing. Glad she passed at home. She was gmas table mate often at the Garden.... and I would talk to her ( and often yr Dad) and she would smile and nod when I told her how nice it was to see her. Knowing peace now, I believe. Thinking of your Dad and your families.

Dear Sam and Girls...so sorry to learn of Pat’s passing. In all the years we taught together and attended workshops and conferences together, I knew her to be a kind and caring individual. Her teaching skills were excellent and she was loved and respected by her students. May the Lord surround you with love and comfort during this difficult time.
