Larry Omer Gaines, age 69, of Flora, Illinois, left the earth to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday night, April 13, 2021, at the Burge House in Flora.
He was born July 13, 1951, in Xenia, Illinois, the son of Omer P. and Wanda (Simmons) Gaines. He married Brenda McCollum Kilduff in 1987.
Larry was a 1972 graduate of Flora High School. He was very proud to serve Unit #35 School District as custodian at McEndree School where he retired in 2013 after 40 plus years of service. Larry enjoyed listening to Flora Wolves football and basketball games on his radio. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He loved listening to music and some of his favorites were various bluegrass and gospel groups. Larry was a true believer in Jesus Christ, attending church as often as he could and when he was unable he would listen to the services on his radio.
He is survived by his 2 sons: Larry Allan Gaines of Flora, and Kyle Brent Gaines of Louisville; stepson: James Kilduff of Olney; mother: Wanda Gentry of Flora; 4 sisters: Jeanette Coggin of Flora, Deana Anderson of Flora, Caroline Cannon of Altamont, and Goldie Shaw of Newport, TN; a half-brother: Ivan Gaines of Tennessee; and his special cat: Black & White.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister: Mary Lou; half-brother: John Gaines; and a half-sister: Modena Green.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Powers Cemetery with Bobby McNeely officiating. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Wanda, Deana, Jeanette, Carolyn, Goldie and Families: We are saddened to hear of Larry’s passing. We are happy for Larry that he no longer has to deal with a sick body. Knowing that he is healthy and whole and is with Jesus makes his passing easier to cope with the loss. Personally, Larry was a good and longtime friend. Dear Wanda, Deana, Jeanette, Carolyn, and Goldie; words can't express how very sorry I am at Larry's passing. I have a lot of good memories when you lived down the street as we were all growing up. Larry was a fine and good man who was respected and well liked by all who knew him. I didn't see him often lately, but I will miss the smile and hug when we did see one another. The world needs a lot more people like Larry. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

He was a special Uncle of mine that will always have a place in my heart. Uncle Larry was a one of a kind , we were only seven months apart in age and in school he never wanted me to tell anyone he was my uncle, he always said he wasn't old enough. I will miss him, but I know he is in the arms of our Lord with his family that gone on before him especially my mother.Love and miss him until we meet again!💜

Larry was extraordinary example of care, love, consideration of others and hard work. My grand father George Murphy would collect Larry for Sunday school at the Nazarene Church in south Main.. Debbie King, Dennis Schell and myself would attend. I haven't seen Larry since the days of 66-72 but his memory has been with me for years. May his memory be a blessing. Tyler Smith

Larry was such a hardworking man. I worked with Larry at McEndree school and if I asked him for something it would always be done right on the spot. He was alway smiling and loved to make people laugh.

Larry was always Happy. He will be sorely missed. He was a Big Fan of 4ForOne when we were performing. I remember him as being a positive influence on everyone he was around. He is in a better place
