Private burial will take place at Golden Cemetery
Randy J. Byers, age 71, of Flora, Illinois, and formerly of Louisville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 17, 2021, at Golden Living Center-Brookview in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was born August 2, 1950, in Iola, the son of Howard and Wilma (Horner) Byers. He was united in marriage to Sandy Hartsey on June 27, 1970, in Louisville.
Randy enlisted in the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He had worked at Halliburton and later retired from Direct Lines, Inc. in Effingham after 25 years. He was often seen working in his yard, mowing and trimming so that everything looked just right. Randy enjoyed woodworking and making useful things, appreciating antiques, and the ability to make good friends with dogs who would run to meet him for an eager happy greeting. He served with the North Clay Fire Protection District until retirement and was a member of the Louisville American Legion and Flora VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Sandy Byers of Flora; son: Brett Byers of Flora; special niece: Stormie Hartsey of Olney; 3 brothers: Delane Byers, Cleon (Dollie) Byers, and Bob (Brenda) Byers; sister: Phyllis (James) Allison; mother-in-law: Betty Hartsey; sister-in-law: Nancy Byers; brother-in-law: Steve (Linda) Hartsey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Sam Byers.
