Amelia Tygett

Amelia Rose Tygett passed away on February 1, 2013, in Indianapolis, IN after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Flora, IL and met William Tygett in 1937 while both worked for President Roosevelt’s WPA program in Harrisburg, IL during the depression. When Harrisburg was flooded, all the employees were boated to safety. This interrupted Bill’s normal weekend return to his home in Christopher, IL. He had to remain in Harrisburg so he asked her for a date that weekend. After a three-month courtship they eloped and for the next 60 years they raised a family, traveled with the Shriners, and loved to dance and play cards.

Amelia was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother, a homemaker, and a professional seamstress working at June’s Bridal Shop in Springfield, IL. She moved to Indianapolis in 2001, four years after the death of her beloved Bill.

She was a 70-year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and held many offices in Springfield, IL and Terre Haute, IN. She loved playing bridge, reading books on tape, Big Band music, dancing, and shopping. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield, IL.

Surviving are her two children: David (Marlena) Tygett of Stockton, CA and Beccie (John) Galloway of Carmel, IN; 6 grandchildren: Brett (Colette) Tygett of Roseville, CA, Angela (Jim) Hauck of Zionsville, IN, Andy Herod and Cathy Herod of Indianapolis, IN, Glen Herod of St. Augustine, FL, and Beth (Steve) Scaer of Nashua, NH; along with eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Dorothy List of Greenwood, IN; two brothers, Art Rose of St. Petersburg, FL and Paul Rose of Flora, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by the following Flora, IL family members: parents Arthur W. Rose and Pearl Terrill Rose, one brother Kenneth Rose, and one sister Nola Stapinski.

The funeral service for Amelia Rose Tygett will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Beta Sigma Phi International, Scholarship Fund Department, 1800 W. 91st Place, Kansas City, MO 64114. An online guest book is available at www.frankandbright.com.

The family expresses appreciation to The Forum at the Crossing, Alliance Home Care, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Hospice, Dr. Wendy Byers, and Dr. Janet Rippy for their kindness and care.
