Interment: Dillman Cemetery
Visitation: 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home
Tommy McCraw, age 77, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, January 28, 2022, at Flora Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.
He was born March 28, 1944, in Great Falls, Montana, the son of Ray Dean and Imo Lee (Bateman) McCraw. He was united in marriage to Sharon Tucker on June 22, 1979, in Mt. Carmel, and together they have shared 42 wedding anniversaries.
Tom served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Flora VFW, and also the Flora American Legion where he had been a two-time Commander. He had worked at the International Shoe Factory where he was President of the Union until the factory closed its doors. He then worked at Southwire as a supply room attendant for over 30 years. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, and listening to country music. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing and was an avid fan of Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon McCraw of Flora; children: Randy (Carla) Speagle of Rinard, Dion (Kim) McCraw of Flora, and Dawn McCraw (Pat Dye) of Newnan, Georgia; grandchildren: Anthony (Jaz) Speagle of Effingham, Amber Holste of Flora, Amanda (Matt) Leak of Flora, Aaron Speagle (Kendra Courson) of Steeleville, Gatlin Speagle of Dundee, Michigan, Cheyenne Speagle of Milan, Michigan, Tori McCraw of Flora, Jayci McCraw of Bryan, Texas, Makynna McCraw of Flora, and Kaitlyn (Landon) Eade of Flora; 9 great-grandchildren; and a niece: Sheri Baker of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother: Ray McCraw.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Tony Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Dillman Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. The McCraws were nearby neighbors and good folks to know. Tom seemed to always smile when he greeted you. He called me often when he was at the American Legion for military funerals. He would greet me when I returned to Flora whenever he saw me. He was always a good neighbor and good guy in my life. Thanks Tom.
I did not know Mr. McCraw personally, but I know his daughter Dawn, and how much she adored/adores him (to the moon and back). Bless your family, as we light a candle in memory of your imprint on the loved ones left on Earth. Bless the McCraw family and loved ones.
