Memorial Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora
Brenda Joyce DiSandro, age 69, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, February 25, 2022, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1952, in Champaign, the daughter of Lloyd George and Velma June (Cooper) Schoonover. She was united in marriage to Benjamin W. Phillips in 1987 and he preceded her in death. She later married Nicholas Keith DiSandro on July 5, 2003, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2019.
Brenda worked for Clay County Health Department for 25 years, working in Home Health and volunteering in Hospice. She enjoyed staying active working in the garden, fishing, and caring for her flowers. She never sat still unless it was to kick your butt playing the card game Skip-Bo. She was a member of the Flora First Baptist Church. Brenda cared for a number of beloved pets over the years and enjoyed visiting and catching up with friends and family.
She is survived by her children: Mike (Marki) Griffin of Port Orchard, WA, Angela (Rob) McKnight of Flora, Robbie (Betty) Murphy Flora; step-son: Norman (Shannon) DiSandro of Lubbock, TX; 8 grandchildren: Heather (Andy) Wasserman, Amber (Anthony) Cummins, Ryan Griffin, Trevor Murphy (Tori), Cierra Griffin (Brody), Dakota Murphy (Cameron), Cassandra Williamson, and Jon Murphy; 5 great-grandchildren: Chase, Blake, Emmitt, Cassidy, and Izaya; 3 brothers: Gene Schoonover of Fisher, Fred (Debbie) Schoonover of Seymore, and Curtis Schoonover of Louisville; special friend: Mike Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 2 brothers: Dale and John Schoonover; and a sister-in-law: Renee Schoonover.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospice, Clay County Cancer Crusaders, or Fur a Good Paws and will be accepted through the funeral home. I’m so sorry to hear of Brenda’s passing. I worked with her for many years and loved her. She had a heart of gold.

So sorry for your loss Betty and Robbie. She was such a nice lady. She helped my mother from time to time.
I will miss Brenda and all the times we had , still doesn’t feel real . She was always there for advice and taught me a lot … I will never forget her !
She was an amazing person, I worked with her at Flora Care Center many years ago and learned alot from her. She was always so kind! She will be missed my many. RIP my friend
Sorry to read this but as you said yesterday, she is whole again and no pain. I know you will miss her terribly. It is so hard to lose your mother. Prayers to you all.

I remember well meeting Brenda when Angie and Wendy became friends. She and I were at many school and community events. So many people appreciated her help through the Health Department. She loved her children and grandchildren. Prayers and hugs.
One of the sweetest ladies ever careng for those that needed her . God gained a beautiful gal.. hugs to the family..

I miss you so much. Random things make me think about you and I realize I won't be able to see you again. I know that you're happier and healthier where you are but life's emptier without you in it. I love you and I wish I told you that more often.
