Celebration of Life: 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Flora Depot
The Tampa Bay Rays lost one of their biggest fans Monday, February 28, 2022. Arthur Neal Mack passed away at the age of 66 in Largo, FL.
Neal was born December 3, 1955, to Alonzo and Mary (Milner) Mack in Abilene, TX. The Mack family moved to Flora, IL in 1956 to care for Mary’s parents. Neal was a 1974 graduate of Flora Township High School and then graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni, IA in 1978. He went on to the University of Illinois for his medical degree. The majority of his career was in Emergency Medicine. He thrived on the challenges of that field. One co-worker commented on Neal’s compassion and kind bedside manner with the patients he cared for.
Neal was a devoted husband and father. His favorite pastimes were fishing, attending and following the Tampa Rays, traveling with family, gardening, music, going to Disney World with his children, and studying the Bible. Neal was a deep thinker, an avid reader, author of books, and loved sitting on the beach. He enjoyed grilling the ocean fish he caught, canning food from his garden, and making his mother’s dessert recipes.
Neal is survived by his wife of 34 years, Teresa; children: Aaron of Columbia, MO, Andrew (Kira), and grandson, Anderson, of Columbia, MO, Abram (Alejandra) of Medellin, Columbia, Hannah Crawford (Brandon) of League City, TX, Abby of Lakeland, GA, and Noah of Fort Myers, FL; his brother, Doug (Susan) of Flora, IL; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy; and aunt and uncle, Arthur (his namesake) and Dottie Greathouse.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Flora Depot, 223 W. Railroad Street, Flora, Illinois. Please be prepared to write a short story or share a memory about Neal. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family with local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, eat a piece of your favorite dessert, contact someone you love, or consider a donation to Samaritan’s Purse. Donations will be accepted through the funeral home. So sorry for the loss of classmate, friend, doctor, and family man. He was so good to work with and good to his patients as well. Rainbows will take on a new meaning now that he sees them from the other side. I am sure he is resting in peace for a life well lived. Until we meet again...

So sorry for your loss Doug.
Neal is part of my best high school memories! Rick and I send our deepest sympathies to you all!!! Praying for God's strength and comfort at this time!!!
So sorry for you all to hear of the passing of Neal. I went to school with Neal from 1st grade thru high school. He was one of my closest friends when we were in grade school. He just lived down the street from me in the south end of Flora. We would walk to school together to Washington school. I remember when Batman first aired on tv (black and white tv) , we would pretend to be the Dymanic Duo. He was Batman because he had a blue wind breaker, and I was Robin because mine was yellow. Anyways, wanted to share that. I am thankful to have known him, and more happy to know he had a relationship with Jesus !! You all take care, and cherish the memories. Boyhood chum and lover of life, here's a Clay County great, one of Flora's finest. Like his earthly brother, an RLDS buddy from the South Side, ANM has been a tremendous source of strength for so many. His name will live on as true Christian gentleman. and example.
He was such a wonderful doctor to work with! He was kind to all, and so very respectful to everyone! Gone too soon.
Worked with him at Richland Memorial many moons ago. He was a very nice man
May God’s loving Grace be showered upon your hearts as you go through the journey of loosing your brother and friend. His life here on Earth was a blessing to so many. Now he will face our Lord for his mission in Heaven, and with vigor and wonder, he shall face it with honor. God bless you Doug and family.
Praying for all of your family today as you celebrate Neal's life.
Neal and I shared many moments together since meeting in Jr. High. We discussed our faith, our passion for Neil Simon plays, music, and debated social justice issues. I am very sorry for his untimely death.
So very sorry to hear of Neals passing. I only knew him as a teen and have the sweetest memory of him. God Bless his family in dealing with this sad loss.
With sincere sympathy
