Carolyn Keck, age 86, of Swansea, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. Louis University Hospital.
She was born December 17, 1935, in Sailor Springs, the daughter of Sailor and Ruth (Rinehart) Coggan. She was united in marriage to James E. Keck on April 6, 1957, at the Sailor Springs Christian Church and together they have shared 65 wedding anniversaries.
Carolyn was a Registered Nurse, having earned her nursing degree from Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign. In the past she had worked at Clay County Health Department, Clay County Hospital, Flora Gardens Care Center, and Duval Children’s Home. She was a member of the Sailor Springs American Legion Auxiliary, the Clay City Rebekah Lodge, Lucky Ramblers Camping Club, and Clay City Squares. Carolyn enjoyed reading, bird watching, playing games, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is survived by her husband: Jim Keck of Swansea; children: Kimberly (Bob) Redfern of Marianna, Florida, Tammy (Bill) Shroyer of Decatur, Amanda Keck of Millstadt, and William (Melissa) Keck of Anna-Jonesboro; 6 grandchildren: Jeremy Carter, Jarrod Carter, Nathan Shroyer, Rachel Redfern, Ryan Redfern, and Spencer Keck; 5 great-grandchildren: Kaidince Carter, Jaidyn Carter, Kaylee Heck-Shroyer, Will Shroyer, and Ranger Shroyer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Laren Coggan; a sister: Marilyn (Coggan) Tolliver; and a great-granddaughter: Rozzalynn Carter.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted through the funeral home. Ohhhh my, the memories are just flooding back, there was nothing like growing up on flatbranch with the Kecks as our neighbors , we had so much fun, Carolyn used to scare me to death, I'm not gonna lie...but her bark was worse than her biteโค..I loved that woman dearly and we laughed about it when I got older , Jim, Kim, Tammy, Mandy, and Bill, you are forever in my heart, I really miss my childhood neighbors. RIP Carolyn, I'm gonna steal some cherry tomatoes from your garden๐โค๐

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.wish I could have made it to her funeral. I always thought a lot of her. Wish I could have seen you. It's been 46 years since I've seen you. Hope you can attend our 50th reunion in 4 years would love to see you.
