He was born September 23, 1956, in Flora, the son of Ivan Eugene and Freda Mae (White) Reed.
Mike was a 1974 graduate of Flora High School. He worked at Fedders until their closing, and enrolled in Lakeland College, earning an Associate Degree in Applied Science and Nursing in 2005. Mike was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and collector of baseball cards, sports memorabilia, and comic books. He had enjoyed bowling and was an accomplished League Bowler, and he liked to work on challenging crossword puzzles. Mike looked forward to gathering with friends and family—both those he was related to and those he considered his work family. He will be remembered for his caring and compassionate spirit, and how he discovered countless opportunities to share and find ways to help others.
He is survived by his mother: Freda Reed of Flora; a daughter: Pearl (Jamie) Cook of Paris; siblings: Sandy (Jess) Cummings of Katy, Texas, Debbie (Gary) Perry of Flora, Brenda (Bill) Britton of Louisville, Linda (Chuck) Spitzner of Rinard, Scott (Sherrie) Reed of Peoria, and Tony (Krista) Reed of Olney; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and special friends: Polly Gano and Sharon David.
He was preceded in death by his father: Gene Reed and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Tony Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home and from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the ceremony on Friday. Memorial donations are suggested to The Haven in Mattoon or Coles County Animal Shelter, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. Mike was a great person and will be missed. I worked at Fedders with him he was a good group leader . And some of our friends and that included Mike would go out to eat. Then everyone got doing their own thing working different shifts and it was harder to get together. I will miss him.

Dennis You were a good friend to me. I know that people like you come around only once in a lifetime♥️I will miss your jokes and your laughter. I will miss music time at work with your Spotify station because we liked a lot of the same music (except that one Dolly Parton song that drove me and Devon crazy !) You always put an effort into making people feel cared about and loved. You left us too soon my friend! I look forward to seeing you again someday. To your family my dearest condolences in the loss of your light in their lives because I know your work family will miss and think of you for the rest of our lives♥️
I have known Mike since I was a small child in 1st grade, as we grew up only a few blocks from each other in Flora. I remember him as being very kind and a compassionate person. He always wanted to help others, therefore, being an RN had to be a perfect occupation for him. My thoughts & prayers are with his family. He will be missed by many.
Mike was a good friend growing up until we went our separate ways after high school. I only have good memories of him which is a real testament to his character and spirit. I have enjoyed his Facebook postings the last few years and I am very saddened that I won't get to anymore. My condolences to his family.
