veteranMar 14th, 1949 - Feb 19th, 2023

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora

Interment: Elmwood Cemetery

Visitation: 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home

Dennis K. Headlee, age 73, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away early Sunday morning, February 19, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

He was born March 14, 1949, in Olney, son of the late John F. and Lavaun K. (Keen) Headlee.  He was united in marriage to Cheryl J. Moseley on June 6, 1970, at Mt. Zion Church.

Dennis served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army in a LRRP (long-range reconnaissance patrol) unit.  He was an avid Civil War collector and garnered numerous best of show awards at events nationally.  He will be remembered for truly dedicating his career in the group living residential healthcare field to helping others, both with the goal of improving the lives of residents and supporting the caregivers and team members he worked with on a one-on-one basis.  Dennis enjoyed visiting with his friends at his antique shop in downtown Flora.  He appreciated antique cars and enjoyed camping trips and traveling to the Western United States.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Headlee of Xenia; a son, Joshua Headlee and wife Amanda of Loganville, Georgia; a daughter, Angela Feldhake of Mascoutah; 3 grandchildren, Elan Feldhake, Averie Feldhake, and Savannah Headlee; a sister, Connie Knarr and husband Richard of Wentzville, Missouri; as well as several nieces and cousins.  He is also missed by his beloved dog companion, Miss Daisy.

A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with military funeral honors presented.  Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.  For those wishing to make a memorial donation to honor Dennis, these are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Battlefield Trust and will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a memory or condolence, visit: www.frankandbright.com

February 21st

Oh where to start…Dennis was one of a kind! He pretty much came with Julian’s when we bought it 28 yrs ago. We would see him almost all day long some days with his best friends Joe and Pat and many other guys that came in and talked about relics and antiques with him on a daily basis over many cups of coffee and “appetizers”. Dennis had a wealth of knowledge is so many areas and a great memory. He would share so many stories with us and they would be either hilarious or educational. Our kids loved him so much they thought of him as a grandpa. They would sit in the back for hours and talk and listen to him and tell us what they learned. Dennis is someone that we will always hold near and dear in our hearts. Dennis was someone Ryan and I always looked up too and loved visiting with. Cheryl, Josh, and Angie & Families may you know the love he had for you all, he would talk about all of you with so much pride and so much love. He was so loved and will be missed greatly.
