Celebration of Life: 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Flora American Legion Post 14
Jimmie “Jim” Neal Dickerson, age 70, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday night, April 27, 2023, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born October 13, 1952, in Xenia, in the home of Hobart and Opal Rush to Roy and Grace (Adams) Dickerson. He was united in marriage to Cathy Everman on October 22, 1994, in Clay City and together they have shared 28 wedding anniversaries.
Jim was a lifelong construction worker, working for 26 years for Jack Wathan Construction before working for the Clay County Housing Authority for 20 years until his retirement in 2017. He had also worked as a bartender for Walt’s Bar and Grill in Flora. Jim was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed all sports, often starting betting pools for major sporting events. He loved attending and betting on horse racing. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting morel mushrooms, fishing, and going to rummage sales and flea markets. Jim was very well known and had a multitude of friends due to his many years as a member of several civic organizations including the Flora Moose lodge 1384, Flora Elks lodge 1659, Flora American Legion Post 14, and a lifetime member of the Flora VFW Post 3999. He was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife: Cathy Dickerson of Flora; 2 children: Nick (Miranda) Ashley of Xenia, Crystal Ashley (Troy Harrison) of Cleveland, MS, and a bonus child, Jerry Powless of Flora; grandchildren: Zane Ashley of Xenia, Taylor Ashley of Clay City, Eli Ashley of Xenia, Cyler Pride of Flora, “lil” Nick Harrison of Flora, Shayley Ashley of Flora, Kori Harrison of Flora, and Miranda Harrison of Flora; great-grandchildren: Kaydence and Dayne Pride; an aunt: Judy Adams of Flora; 2 nephews: Jason Sessions and Jimmy Sessions; and a niece: Shelly Billington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Judith K. (George) Knackmuhs; a brother: Roy E. “Ed” Dickerson; and a nephew: Brian Sessions.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Flora American Legion Post 14. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Sad to hear of Jim's passing. We enjoyed hearing him talk about the Cardinals and football teams. He will be missed.
I remember Jim as being abit quiet and friendly to everyone. He wanted to be your friend. Jim was a very good man.

I sat next to Jim in FTHS auditorium for 4 years. He was always so kind to me. In later years his kindness to my mom was way more than his job with housing required. She and I appreciated him helping her and knew the care he gave his own mom.

I am saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We had many chats when both of us were working at the Housing Authority. Jim was always good about sharing his recipes and especially his extra twists about them. I always remember his own concotion of Raisin Cream Pie......which was so good..
