Donald Glen Shehorn, age 94, of South Bend, Indiana, a native of Wayne County, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, August 27, 2023, at Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend.

      He was born May 9, 1929, in Johnsonville, Illinois, the son of Arvil and Vula (Warren) Shehorn.  He was united in marriage to Dolores Sundberg on September 2, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and together they shared 48 wedding anniversaries prior to her passing.   

      Don enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the St. Joseph Masonic Lodge No. 45 in South Bend; the South Bend Scottish Rite; and the Orak Shrine in Michigan City, Indiana.  He retired from Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers in Countryside, and had been a heavy equipment operator.

      He is survived by a grandson: Michael C. Hancz of Lakeville, Indiana; a great-granddaughter: Ashley; and 2 brothers: Gary (Karen) Shehorn and Ray (Goldy) Shehorn, both of Orchardville.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter: LaDonna; a sister: Glenda Rawls; and a brother: Guy Shehorn.

      A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Jacob’s Chapel Cemetery, Orchardville, where military funeral honors will be presented.  A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Masonic Rites will take place at 10:30 a.m.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
