Funeral Ceremony: 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home
Visitation: 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home
James Daniel Horn, age 37, of Flora, passed away Friday night, October 13, 2023, in the loving care of his family.
Daniel was born August 27, 1986, in Fairfield, the son of Katie L. (Johnson) Castleberry and James Allen Horn. He was married to Veronica Mefford on January 23, 2019.
Daniel loved his family and friends and would do anything to help someone if he could. At just 10 years old, he faced a kidney failure diagnosis. His mother’s gift of a kidney sustained him through the next 16 years before he resumed dialysis. Recently, Daniel made the choice to cease treatment. When he came home for hospice care, he wanted a big cookout. Over 50 friends and family attended the gathering and happy time with Daniel while good food, stories, and smiles and hugs were shared.
He was fond of candy like Sweet Tarts and Lemon Drops. He enjoyed playing video games, especially Pokémon and Raid, and dearly treasured his dog, RoseBell.
Throughout life's challenges, Daniel's spirit and heart touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife: Veronica Horn of Flora; his mother: Katie (Raymond) Castleberry of Flora; his father: James Horn of Mt. Vernon; a sister: Rebekah Horn Bell of Mt. Vernon; a brother: Joshua Horn of Flora; nephews and nieces: Gage (Stephanie) Schloemer of Kansas, Kaeli Perez-Horn of Flora, Asher Horn and Shianne Horn of Iola, Cameron Horn of Louisville, and Gracelyn Bell and Katelyn Bell of Mt. Vernon; maternal grandparents: LaVern and Dorothy Johnson of Keenes; paternal grandmother: Lou Horn of Mt. Vernon; and uncles and aunt: Joe (Lisel) Johnson of Mt. Carmel, Wayne (Tina) Johnson of Fairfield, Tom (Tammy) Johnson of Patoka, Indiana, Wes (Robin) Johnson of Fairfield, and Bell (Dale) Klanke of Xenia.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Gabriel “Patch” Horn; paternal grandfather: Carroll Horn; uncles: LaVern Johnson Jr. and Brad Horn; and cousins: Vance Horn and Rachel Horn.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Daniel’s uncles Wayne Johnson and Wes Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private interment will take place later at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Barnhill. Memorials are suggested to assist with expenses and may be directed to Katie Castleberry or the “Daniel Horn Benefit” account at Flora Bank & Trust.
