Retha Mae Rinehart, age 92, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, January 23, 2024, at her home.
She was born January 3, 1932, in Gamaliel, Kentucky, the daughter of Garfield and Lonie Humes.
Bingo was the passion of Retha’s life, earning her the nickname “Bingo Queen” among those who knew her well. Her enthusiasm wasn’t just for the game itself, she loved winning, and often win she did! Her best Friday evenings were spent playing bingo and dancing. Once the music started, it was almost impossible to keep her away from the dance floor, where she could outdance just about anyone. These evenings, along with family gatherings like cookouts, fish fries, and birthday parties, were cherished moments filled with laughter, smiles, and unforgettable memories. Retha’s absence will leave a profound void in the lives of her family and numerous friends. In her memory, it’s envisioned that she is now playing in the grandest bingo hall imaginable, a place where the happiness of winning is a constant experience for everyone.
She is survived by her children: Carmeletta Barlow of Brownstown, John (Suzy) Hale of The Villages, Florida, Jimmy (Edna) Hale of Sullivan, Missouri, Lesa Hale of Xenia, Jessie (Rodney) Persinger of Flora, and Joe Hale of Xenia; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands: William Garland Hale and Raymond Rinehart; a son: Bavil Hale; grandson: Dustin Hale; 3 sisters: Ida, Maggie, and Claracie; 3 brothers: James, Mitchell, and Robert; and special companion: Frank Suddeth.
There will be no services. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
