George Kenneth Roush, age 84, of Flora, IL passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home in Flora.
Kenny was born on April 20, 1929 in Louisville, IL, the son of DeFay Orin and Iva Hazel (Guinn) Roush. He married Vernal Coble on April 18, 1954 at First Christian Church in Flora. Kenny was an active and supportive member of First Christian Church in Flora. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked as a roughneck and driller in the oilfields, was a driver’s license superintendent in several counties, and thoroughly enjoyed driving a school bus in later years for high school sporting events. His memberships included the Masons where he received his 50 year pin, Shrine, Kiwanis, and had been a member of Odd Fellows. Kenny and Vernal enjoyed bowling and owned the Flora Bowl for 10 years and for 20 years they have traveled to Texas for the winters. In addition to playing baseball, he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. Kenny loved his family and truly loved being around children.
Kenny is survived by his wife: Vernal Roush of Flora; a daughter: Kimberly Ranson (husband Steve) of Hazelwood, IN; daughter-in-law: Janet Roush of Hazelwood, IN; brother-in-law: Don Lusk of Flora; 3 grandchildren: Chad Ranson (wife Abbi) of Hartsville, IN, Aaron Ranson (wife Leigh) of Nicholasville, KY, and Amber Ranson of Seattle, WA; 4 great-grandchildren: Bella and Molly Ranson , Lily and Harper Ranson; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gregory, and a sister Norma Jean Lusk.
The funeral service for Kenny Roush will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with his son-in-law Steve Ranson officiating with Ben VanHyning assisting. Interment will follow in Floral Garden of Memories, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. (noon) - 2 p.m. on Thursday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church for their Mission Ministry.
Very sorry to hear of your loss, Kenny will be missed by many. Golfing won't be the same without him. God Bless all this family in their hour of sorrow.

Kenny and Vernal were neighbors of ours on Flora Avenue -- I remember how very nice and friendly each of them always were toward me, even as a kid.. then as an adult - after my Daddy [Walter Ridgley] passed away , Mother spoke of how nice they were in always being there for her -- I appreciate both of them and am sending prayer for Vernal and family for their loss -- Ken was a nice man and I know he will be missed -- Love to you & prayers for strength - Your neighbor from yrs ago, Linda Ridgley-Getz
What a blessing Kenny was to all of us who knew him. Remember you are not alone,Honey. God promises to supply our every need in times like these. Lean on Him. Hugs , and love to you , Vernal and to all of the family. Sorry I can't be with you . However I will continue to lift you all up in prayers.
We were so fortunate to have met Kenny and Vernal down in Fulton, TX and they were such a friendly and fun loving couple that we will always remember them. Kenny always had that smile and twinkle in his eye each and every afternoon when we would all meet at the picnic table for the afternoon visit. Vernal, our thoughts and prayers go out to you. A toast to Kenny -- the greatest sporting event bus driver a high school sports team could ever have! Fond memories of trips across the state with him at the wheel, ignoring the stupid comments and shenanigans of teen-age boys. Farewell young man, until I need a lift somewhere again.........!

I remember Ken as a wonderful Father that was always ready to assist with the youth of the church as I was Youth Minister. A good word and a ready hand with a Christian attitude. You had Ken nailed. Our sympathy to the family and our prayers of Victory for Ken. He is home and will be waiting for all the Church family.

I will always remember the smiles he gave everyone, especially as you strolled by my house so often. I know there is comfort in the Lord and he will carry the family through this sad time. Rejoice in the knowledge he is well and happy. God Bless each of you as you celebrate his life and the wonderful memories Kenny left for each of you.
Kenny will be missed by so many. I always appreciated his and Vernal's interest in other people, especially with the youth at church - even when the "youths" got to be in their 50's! Will be praying for you all in the day's ahead.
Kenny was a wonderful person, and will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

Mom sends her love to you. She said she couldn't do much, but wanted you to know she will be praying for all the family. We are grateful to have known Kenny. He loved his family and His Lord. He loved to laugh, and found joy in whatever he did. We know your days here on earth will be different now, but what a reunion there will be when you see him again! And what a blessing to know, without a doubt, he'll be waiting at the gates for you! Can't you just picture that grin of his?
