Donald Knight, age 85, of Flora, IL passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home in Flora.
Don was born May 4, 1928 in Fithian, IL, the son of Lester and Veda Pauline (McClure) Knight. He married Donna F. Hines on April 16, 1955 in Danville, IL. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2006. Don worked for Rex Seed and Grain for 26 years, was an area farmer, and also worked 22 years for Harter Township. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was of the Presbyterian faith. Don cared greatly for his family. He liked to fish, enjoyed gardening and looking after his cats, and played an occasional game of golf.
He is survived by his children: Dawn Prater (husband Phil) of Xenia, Karen McAllister (husband Mike) of Flora, Charles Knight (wife Mary) of Flora; sister: Beulah Mangione (husband Henry) of Muskegon, MI; brother: Richard Knight of Georgia; sister-in-law: Beverly Knight of Royal, IL; 8 grandchildren: Susan (Chad) King of Flora, Angela Patrick of Xenia, Jason Beard of Flora, Lenard Beard (fiancée Amy Griffith) of Flora, Ashley (Justin) Landreth of Flora, Krista McAllister of Flora, Cathy (Chris) Henry of Fairfield, Crystal (Phillip) Cruse of Flora; along with 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Michael Knight, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Ellen Knight, brother Larry Knight, and sister-in-law Joan Knight.
The funeral service for Don Knight will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Harris officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Fur A Good Paws.

So sorry for your loss. Don was such a good and kind man that always had a smile for me. He will be greatly missed by all that considered him a friend or in my case, family. I love you all and will have you in my prayers and thoughts.

Remembering how thoughtful and kind Don was when we hauled grain to Rex Seed & Grain. He always had a smile and made the day seem brighter. He will be missed.

A wonderful man who will be missed. Especially miss seeing him out working on the roads in Harter Township and stopping to visit when I stopped him on the road grader or tractor mowing roadsides. My condolences to the family.

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Donnie was when I was priveleged to have lunch with him, my Uncle Dick, and my dad (Larry) a few years ago. They had so many stories to tell and my side hurt from laughing so much!!! It was one of the best days I can remember. My prayers are with all of you!!!!
Dawn, Karen , Chuck and family my sympathy goes out to you all and your families. Prayers coming your way. Don was a good man and we all have good memories from the time you moved to my neighborhood. I often thought of him but hadn't seen him for awhile. Praying that you all find comfort in the next few days.

What I remember most about Uncle Donnie was his kindness and gentle manner. He also had a great sense of humor and laughed easily. Karen, Charlie, Dawn, and the whole family, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Donnie was my big Brother and best friend growing up. We had a motorcycle together that we almost rode the tires off. He was always there when I needed that occasional small loan. He grew up to be a fine man I'm proud to call my big Brother. He was a great guy and I will dearly miss him and our talks.
