Interment: Brush Creek Cemetery
Visitation: 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brush Creek Campgrounds
Kyla Ann Hafeli, age 59, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home after an inspiring battle with cancer.
She was born June 30, 1964, in Marion, Illinois, the daughter of Bob Boyt and Barbara Patton.
Kyla was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a member of the Marion congregation. The Brush Creek Campgrounds were very special to her and she was active throughout her life at Brush Creek as a teacher, counselor and cook.
She graduated from Graceland College with a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in music and would later earn her teaching certificate and masters degree in education. Kyla was an elementary teacher and reading specialist in the Marion School District for over 25 years. She also tutored children in reading and taught piano lessons for many years.
She loved the ocean, hunting for sea shells, playing cards, collecting recipes, watching wheel of fortune, and cheering on Cody and Abe’s favorite sports teams. Kyla will be remembered for her cakes and chocolate chip cookies, and her genuine love of people. Kyla was a remarkably gifted pianist and provided ministry through her playing at countless churches and events. Piano was her sanctuary and when she felt closest to her Heavenly Father. She was a wonderful mother and an even better Maw Maw to Foster. Most importantly, her steadfast faith and testimony of Jesus Christ will be her enduring legacy.
She is survived by her children: Katelyn Forth (Abraham) of Nashville, Cody Hafeli of Belleville and grandson, Foster Forth; mother, Barbara Patton (David) of Marion; siblings, Beresa Barnett (Steve) of Goreville, Doug Boyt (Darlene) of Gardner, Kansas and Becky Rhine (Keith) of Marion and a number of cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Boyt and her beloved nephew, Zachary Strang.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Brush Creek Campgrounds with High Priest Brad Gault and Elder Rick Forth officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Auditorium at Brush Creek

I am so sorry to hear of Kyla’s passing. There is nothing to prepare us when we lose a loved one. I will remember her fondly. She was sweet, loving and kind and will be deeply missed by all. My prayers are with you all.
Kyla is one of the most kind, loving, generous people I've ever known. And, like her dad (he & my dad were friends), one of the most pleasant & positive people, too. I so admired her strength & endurance during her battle with cancer. She was a mighty warrior. The world is a better place having had her in it. May God give you all comfort & peace as you grieve her loss.
Kyla was such a joy to be around during our teaching years. Our loss will be heaven’s gain. May she rest in peace.
Cody and Kaitlyn Our condolences to both of you Your mom always had a great smile and a great person. The last time we saw and talked to her was at your church playing the piano. Wow… what a talent she had! May you be wrapped around with many happy times with your special mother
