Vicki Laird (Schlabach) died at her home in Lafayette, Louisiana on May 27, 2024. Vicki was born on November 5, 1954 – the youngest of five children born to Werner “Chico” and Ada Schlabach in Weatherford, Texas. Vicki was 69 years old at the time of her passing.
Vicki was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lafayette, Louisiana – often helping with fundraisers, clothing drives, and Vacation Bible School. In the last 20 years of her life, Vicki’s mission was sobriety. She battled addiction courageously and with remarkable resilience. Vicki never hesitated to shed light on her struggle and ask for help to find her footing again. She helped countless others in their journey for sobriety as an active member of AA. Vicki made it clear that in the event of her passing, her possessions were to be given to people recovering from addiction. Her request was honored.
Vicki is survived by two daughters she shared with Lee Laird: Cassia (Brandon) Wood of Iuka, IL and Rebecca (Daithan) Kitchens of Smyrna, Georgia; six grandchildren, Keagan, Keira, Charles, Ian, Isla, and Marley; brother Michael (Connie) Schlabach of Lafayette, Louisiana; niece Kimberly Denton of Mattoon, IL, who was more like a sister to her; sister-in-law Marsha (Steve) Miller; nieces and nephews Kyle, Cory, Colin, Cody, Caitlyn, Cathy, Cassandra, Michael, Les, Lucas, Lindsey.
Vicki is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tammy; parents, Werner and Ada Schlabach, brothers Allan and Richard Schlabach and sister Shirley Denton; nephew Kern Schlabach; and father and mother-in-law Charles and Pauline Laird.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Laird Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
