Richard Lee Rice, age 84, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Flora Rehabilitation & Healthcare.
He was born July 30, 1940, in Flora, the son of John K. and Erma (McAvoy) Rice. He was united in marriage to Deloris M. Chilton on September 7, 1995, and together they shared 28 wedding anniversaries until her passing on September 23, 2021.
Richard graduated from Flora High School. He was a lifelong area farmer and had worked at Sparton Manufacturing for 38 years. He enjoyed time spent woodworking, often redoing furniture, watching Nascar, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and trips to the coffee shop.
He is survived by his son: Kent (Melody) Rice of Xenia; grandchildren: Zach (Heather) Rice of Xenia, Aaron Rice of Mt. Vernon, and Cody Cook of Rinard; 2 great-grandchildren: Quinn and Lainey; son-in-law: Gary Cook of Rinard; and a sister-in-law: Elizabeth Rice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter: Marcie Cook; and a brother: John K. Rice Jr.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Charles Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Xenia. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Gregory A. I met Dick Rice years ago when I too worked at Spartan Manufacturing a great man. Condolences to his family.

Kent and family I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I couldn't be at the funeral today due to Ken having a pacemaker appt in Springfield. Richard was such a special friend. I am so glad I introduced he and Doddie to each other. My prayers and love to all of you.
