Barbara June (Spitzner) Cook, age 96, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Flora Gardens Care Center.
She was born on July 23, 1928, in Rinard, the second of five daughters to Leslie and Sylvia (Howe) Spitzner.
Barbara grew up in Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age and has served the Lord faithfully. She was a member of the First Church of God in Flora.
She married Carroll Cook on August 18, 1946, and they shared almost 56 years until his passing on May 27, 2002. What a way to celebrate their 78th anniversary on the day of her passing.
She was one who knew hard work by helping her dad growing up. She and her husband shucked corn by hand when they were first married. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Stanley Timm, and her last job was at Sparton Manufacturing in Flora. She also volunteered at Clay County Hospital in the auxiliary which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at music on Tuesday nights. Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who took pride in caring for her family and home.
She is survived by a son: Larry (Linda) Cook of Valier; a daughter: Linda (Vic) Ackerson of Flora; 5 grandchildren: Angie (Jeff) Edgmon, Kim (Nat) Workman, Emily Cook, Tiffanie (Phillip) Perkins, and Jonathan Ackerson; 7 great-grandchildren: Kylee (Seth) Overton, Noah, Jacob, and Luke Edgmon, and Katelyn, Carter, and Samantha Workman; and 1 great-great-grandson: Ryan Overton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters: Rosie, Ruby, Betty, and Shirley; infant sister: Dorothy; and brother: Danny.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, at the First Church of God in Flora. Interment will follow in Cisne Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, and from 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Church of God in Flora or the New Hope Church in Ina, Larry Cook, Pastor. To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
