Graveside Ceremony: 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora
Vera M. Craig, age 92, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2024, at Flora Gardens Care Center.
She was born January 20, 1932, in Flora, the daughter of Richard Olin “R.O.” and Cora Elizabeth (Schmidt) Sparlin. She was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” E. Craig on May 6, 1964, in Chicago, and together they shared 51 wedding anniversaries until his passing on February 16, 2016.
Vera and Tom lived in Chicago for many years, where she worked in various roles, including as a retail clerk, cashier, and bookkeeper. She was a former member of the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, Home Extension, and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Illinois. Vera enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and caring for her garden. Her kindness and willingness to help others will remain in the hearts of those who remember her.
She is survived by her sister, Clara Booth of Flora; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Craig; 5 brothers, Glenn, Charles, Richard “Bruce”, Rex, and Benjamin; and 5 sisters, Dorothy, Virginia, Kathryn, Martha, and Edyth.
A graveside ceremony followed by interment will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Those who wish to attend are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospital Auxiliary or to any charity of the donor’s choice, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. Clara and family..so very sorry to hear of Vera's passing. Always enjoyed visiting with Vera and loved working as an election judge with her. Many prayers of comfort to you all.

We will all miss Aunt Vera. She was so kind and generous. She would be there in a minute if you needed help. I have many fond memories of our Chicago visits to see her and Uncle Tom. She had a quick dry sense of humor and was always a lot of fun. Clara, your devotion to her care will be remembered as will the commitment of Anthony and Calvin. Love you all, sorry I’m not able to be there.
Clara - so sorry to hear about the passing of your sister Vera. I got to know Vera and the family while working for the Booth family. She was a very kind hearted lady and always had some advise to give me along the way.
Clara, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I really did not know Vera, but I remember seeing at the hospital where she volunteered. She was always friendly to everyone and smiled at you whether or not she knew them. Clara, I pray that God will heal and comfort you in a way that only he can. My condolences to all of your family.

I'm so sorry to hear about Vera. I always enjoyed visiting with her.
We were grieving for our oldest son who had just passed away at the age of 69 after fighting Altimers and Parkinson For 9years, when family from Flora told us about Vera. We were in High School and very good friends ,enjoyed alot of good times and then time moved on. Our memories will always be there, to her family and Clara I am so sorry -Love and Prayers Always-
