Agnes Rowena Tibbs, age 96, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, October 17, 2024, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Rowena was born December 8, 1927, in Wayne County, the daughter of Burlie F. and Clela (Malone) Butcher. She was united in marriage to Harvey Thomas Tibbs on October 12, 1946, and together they shared 75 wedding anniversaries until his passing on November 10, 2021.
She and Harvey were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Flora. It was here that they celebrated many Sunday services and wedding anniversaries and served the Lord. After raising her children, Marvin and Teresa, Rowena worked at Mann Shoe Store in Flora for many years. After she retired, she and Harvey enjoyed traveling in their RV and playing golf. They visited Florida every winter for many years. They also spent many years working at the food pantry.
Rowena was a wonderful cook, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoyed Sunday dinners at her house every time they came to town for a visit. She never allowed them to leave without her chocolate chip cookies. Every year at Christmas time, she made holiday platters full of delicious homemade cookies, fudge, and candies.
Although she missed Harvey dearly in her last few years, she remained independent. She took care of herself and the home they had shared until just a few months ago. She never once forgot a card or gift for any of her grandchildren's or great-grandchildren's birthdays or wedding anniversaries.
She is survived by her son: Marvin (Brenda) Tibbs of Flora; 2 granddaughters: Kristie (Steven) Franzen and Jamie (Mike) Justice; 7 great-grandchildren: Emma DeYong, Regan Franzen, Jake Franzen, Taylor Franzen, Lainey Justice, Braden Justice, and William Justice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Teresa Tibbs Bible; son-in-law: Mark Bible; daughter-in-law: Elaine Tibbs; 2 granddaughters: Lori Tibbs and Jennifer Bible; and a niece and several nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at First Church of Flora. Interment will follow in Floral Garden of Memories Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Cancer Crusaders, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. I am so very sorry for your loss. 🙏🏻
We have many memories of Harvey and Rowena from church. They were stalwarts of First Baptist. Rowena was always beautifully dressed and coifed. She was an excellent cook. I have her recipe (in her handwriting) for her delicious meatballs. I thank God for allowing our lives to intersect with Harvey and Rowena’s. Our sympathies to Marvin and family. God bless y’all. RIP Miss Rowena❣️
What a lovely person Rowena was….. Rest in Peace 🕊️
I offer my upmost condolences as what I consider a phenomenal family, I knew how much she missed her husband, and the problems they've been through, and although I feel sorry for all involved I say, sometimes death comes as a friend!
Sorry for your loss. Rowena was a beautiful, loving lady. We have known her for many years, remember her from Manns Shoe store. She always had a smile for you. Prayers of comfort for you and all your family and friends.

Rowena will be missed by so many. She and Harvey were such an amazing couple who touched many lives. Prayers are with their family. May they find much comfort in the many memories that were made.
Marvin and family, I was so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. Harvey and Rowena were great neighbors, first, in the Sunny Side subdivision, then the Hack Adam's subdivision in town. Rowena was such a friendly and welcoming person. RIP, Rowena
We are very sorry to hear of Rowena's passing! My mom enjoyed living on 7th and chatting with her. She was avery special lady!! We are praying for you all!!!
So sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs Rowena. Enjoyed many years of sharing a pew with her and Mr Harvey. They both were the best dressed every single Sunday! At church dinners we always got our piece of her coconut crème pie before the dinner and hid it! She will definitely be missed but Heaven gained a beautiful angel, and now she is back with Mr Harvey celebrating! Continued prayers to your family.
Marvin, so very sorry to learn of your Mama's passing. And to your girls, Kristie and Jamie, the loss of your Grandmother. You all will be in my prayers for the days ahead, for strength and peace to go on without her here with you all. May she rest in peace.
I have loved Rowena and Harv since I was a kid. The Oakes the Levitts and Tibbs took several trips in February to Florida. Jeff and I were the only kids. Rowena sat very patiently with me making sure I got all my homework done for the classes I was missing. She never ever forgot my birthday or my daughters. She was always an encouraging voice to me. I learned to eat coconut cream pie because hers was so so good and I hate coconut ! I will forever regret not having her teach me to make pie. What a wonderful lady!
So sorry to learn of Rowena’s passing! My family and I attended First Baptist Church and Harv and Rowena were always there supporting whatever programs were being offered! Rowena and my mother, Eloise Harvey, were considered two of the best cooks FBC had to offer! Heaven has claimed another angel!!
So sorry for your loss. I remember when I was a lot younger, sitting behind Harvey and Rowena. They always were so glad to see us. I miss everyone at First Baptist
My condolences to the family.
