Visitation: 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home
Interment: Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville
Brenda Kay Thompson, age 72, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025, at Clay County Hospital.
She was born September 29, 1952, in Flora, the daughter of the late Orse M. “Mink” Wyman and Helen L. (Higgason) Wyman.
On June 8, 1973, Brenda married James D. Thompson, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. During 50 years of marriage, they stood by each other’s side, and in Jim’s later years, Brenda’s devoted care was a symbol of their bond. Jim preceded her in passing on March 1, 2024.
Brenda found her greatest joy in her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and when she became a great-grandma, her happiness knew no bounds. With a warm and nurturing presence and a knack for cooking, she made sure no one ever left her home hungry, and her family’s weekly gatherings, lovingly nicknamed “Momo Monday,” became a treasured tradition.
Brenda was a member of the Flora Moose and had belonged to First Southern Baptist Church of Clay City. She enjoyed the simple comforts of staying at home and could often be found immersed in watching a tv crime drama. She appreciated good music and had a special place in her heart for knowing that pets, especially her “granddogs,” were well cared for.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Randi Thompson of Cropsey and Jami (Eric) Lewis of Bible Grove; 4 grandchildren: Blake Thompson (fiancé Emily Robertson), Sierra Buffington, Chloe Lewis, and Colin Lewis; a great-grandson: Carter Thompson; a sister: Marion Wyman of Kingston, Tennessee; 2 brothers-in-law: Bob (Ruth) Thompson and Dave (Linda) Thompson; a sister-in-law: Sandra Thompson; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friends: Les and Stacy Higgason.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband; and a brother-in-law: Willie Thompson.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. A visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Fur A Good Paws in Flora and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
