Billie S. England, age 80, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.

She was born November 17, 1944, in Flora, the daughter of William H. “Rosebud” and Sarah E. “Susan” (Glassford) Mack.  She married the love of her life, Larry D. England, on February 29, 1980, and together they shared 30 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 15, 2010.

Billie was a graduate of Sanford Brown College in St. Louis, Missouri.  She had worked for the Illinois Terminal Railroad as Executive Secretary for the Traffic Department, Swift Ag Chem, Ashton-Stanford in Salem, Fedders, Dowell Chemical.  Her soft place for children led to her role as a nanny for the Reynolds family, and after retirement she worked as a child care provider.

Billie volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and served on the board for Southeastern Illinois Mental Health (SEIMH).  She was a member of the Garden Club, and the Flora VFW Post 3999 Auxiliary.  Billie attended the First Presbyterian Church and served as a member of session and clerk of session.  When the church closed its doors, she became a member of First Baptist Church where she served on the Deacons Board and was Card Chairman on the Board of Christian Education.  Family was important to Billie and her greatest love was her sons and grandchildren.  Billie enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ activities, reading, crafting, and had a passion for dancing, especially country dancing.

She is survived by her sons: Gregory Todd (Sandy) Beard of Flora, Scott Allen Beard of Flora, Keith (Linda) England of Flora, and John (Mary) England of Williamsville, Missouri; grandchildren: Haley Beard, Brianna (Christopher) Scott, Caitlin Beard, Sarah Alice, Holly Kruse, and Haven Pettigrew; 4 great-grandchildren: Brayleigh, Karmyn, Marli, and Waylon; another great-granddaughter on the way, expected in July; a sister: Nancy McGee of Watson; brother-in-law: Ralph Neville of Flora; special cousin: Lisa Erbacher of Flora; nieces and nephews:

She was preceded in passing by her parents; 2 infant brothers: Anthony and William Mack; 2 sisters: Patricia Ann (Frank) Kemo and Sally Neville; 2 grandsons: Brandon Beard and Mark England; brother-in-law: Len McGee; and 2 nephews: Doug Burroughs and Mark McGee.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Beyond the Walls Clay County, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com

I offer my sincere condolences, and prayers for the entire family. I knew her dad, her sister, Sally. And I knew Billie, I knew her first husband well, and she knew it, it was a miracle that she married, Larry. May the families time of grief, be short-lived, because I'm sure she's in a better place.
