Jessie Nicole Back Tolliver, age 38, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at her home.
She was born June 10, 1986, in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of James William Jr. and Susan Michelle (Hise) Back.
Jessie attended Elementary School in Clay City and attended Flora for her Jr. High and High School years. She had worked at Casey’s and other local businesses in the past. Known for her love of creativity, she enjoyed writing, painting, coloring, and diamond art. Family was important to her, and she valued every moment spent together. In her free time, she liked watching movies and listening to music. Jessie’s motto was always “The sky’s the limit.” She will be remembered for her protective and outspoken spirit, her feisty nature, and the warmth of her caring, loving, and laid-back ways.
She is survived by her children: Landon Back (Rae Ann Smith) of Effingham, Malachi Tolliver (Alyssa Deliege) of Effingham, Dominick Tolliver (Makenzie Landreth) of Flora, Piper Tolliver of Flora, and Ezmae Tolliver of Flora; parents: Susan (Greg) Thomas of Effingham and James (Cathy) Back Jr. of Shawneetown; significant other: Brett Reed of Flora; a granddaughter on the way, eagerly expected in August; siblings: Heather Back (Zach) of Anna, Jarod Back of Shawneetown, Brianna Thomas of Salem, and Cyndi Donoho of Flora; grandparents: Gatha Hise of Eldorado, Darlene Landreth Reece of Olney, Linda Back of Shawneetown, and Sherman Thomas of Flora; aunts and uncles: Sandra (Lawrence) Wagy of Springfield, Jackie (Michael) Primus of Vincennes, Indiana, Scott (Heather) Sayles of West Liberty, Vickie Back of Shawneetown, Darrell (Becky) Back of Henderson, Kentucky, Carrie Landreth (Josh Conley) of Olney, Daniel (Kim) Thomas of Clay City, and Steve (Danita) Henderson of Flora; special nephews: Ryne Hawkins, River Hawkins, and Blake Back; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers: Richard Landreth, Eldon Hise, and James Back; grandmother: Patty Thomas; an aunt: Rita Barbre; and 2 stepbrothers: Dwight Brooks and Rudy Brooks.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with final expenses, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. I was so sad to hear if Jessie’s passing this morning. My heart breaks for everyone. I just spoke with her last week & she told me how proud of her kids she was. Prayers for the family.
