Velma Smith, age 53, of Louisville, IL passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at the home of her brother in Wheeler, IL.
Velma was born on September 20, 1960 in Flora to Harvey W. and Erma P. (Grahn) Hagen. She married Gary Lee Smith on November 14, 1983 at Old Union Church of Christ in Louisville. Velma’s life was all about her family. She was a loving person with a sweet spirit who cared for others and loved going to church. Velma had worked at Secure Processors in Olney, Clay County Industries in Flora, and also as a CNA. She was a member of Red Brush Christian Church and attended Bible Grove Christian Church.
Velma is survived by her husband: Gary Lee Smith of Louisville; siblings: Amy Stadge (Danny) of Olney, Patricia Wilson of Louisville, Thelma Decker (Gilbert) of Birdseye, IN, William H. Hagen of Bible Grove, Brenda Cooper (Robbie) of Bible Grove, Nathaniel Hagen (Vicky) of Wheeler; 7 nieces, 8 nephews, and 3 great nephews who she treated like they were hers. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents (Harvey D. and Ruby Lillian Hagen), and an aunt and uncle (Annie and Julius Grahn).
The funeral service for Velma Smith will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Old Union Church of Christ in Louisville with interment following in the Old Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the church. Frank & Bright Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Never have I known a more caring and unselfish person than Velma. God must have needed a baby sitter for all his little angels and of course Velma was the best choice! She will be missed!
