Genell Farmer, age 93, of Flora, Illinois passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Genell was born May 28, 1920 in Flora to Walter F. and Mary (Jones) Corry. She married Dale “Bill” Farmer on January 23, 1939 in Morganfield, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1979. Genell had worked at the Flora IGA store starting in the 1950’s. For many years she was a member of New Zion Tennessee General Baptist Church and later the First Southern Baptist Church in Flora. Genell took great pride in keeping a neat and clean home, loved tending to her flowers, and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and making delicious pies.
She is survived by her daughter: Mary (Ron) King of Flora; a sister: Betty Devore of Mattoon; 4 grandchildren: Steven (Nancy) Farmer of Imperial, MO, Brian (Connie) Farmer of Highland, Karla King of Flora, Angie (Mark) Ellerbeck of O’Fallon; 6 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son (Richard “Dick” Farmer), and a brother (Don Corry).
The funeral service for Genell Farmer will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with interment following in Russell Cemetery, Rinard. Visitation will be from 12 (Noon) until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Genell’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the National Hemophilia Foundation and will be received at the funeral home. Mary, your Mother was such a kind and gentle lady. I used to always stop and visit with her when my brother was over at Flora Gardens, she always had a smile on her face, it was a privileged for being her friend. My prayers are with you and Ron.

So sorry for the passing of your mom. I remember my mom speaking highly of your mom back in the 60 and 70 s. I saw several pictures of them when they were young. My mom passed away in 1972. Your dad and my dad worked together on the railroad. Prayers lifted for your family.
