So sorry to hear of the passing of this dear lady. The family is in our thoughts and prayers. Vanessa Robinson
Esther was a lovely lady who taught Math at CCHS while I was school nurse there. I enjoyed her sense of wry humor and the twinkle in her eye. She was a great teacher as well. Unfortunately, they don't make them like Esther any more. May she rest in peace.
Esther's obituary in the Southern Illinoisan today was a total surprise to me. She was my mother's first cousin and I knew her well as a young boy. My mother was Flossie Matthews Kinkade and her mother was Nettie Logan Matthews, sister to Clint Logan, Esther's father. I moved to Vienna to become superintendent at Vienna High School District in 1970. Over time I learned that she was a highly regarded math teacher in this region. Unfortunately we did not have occasion to renew our family connection, which I regret. I retired in1993 and still live in Vienna. I have one story about Esther. I have been a fan of the Dodgers major league baseball team since they were in Brooklyn. One summer when I was a teenager she invited me to accompany her on a train trip throughout the eastern states, but for some reason I decided not to go. It was another event I regretted when she returned and told me that the Brooklyn Dodgers were traveling on her train for a road trip and she had met and had breakfast with some of my heros. As others have said, she was a lovely lady and highly respected by those who knew her.
One of the sweetest ladies I ever knew. She was my math teacher at Elkville and a very dear dear friend to my family. Loved her! Thinking of all the fun my Mother had with her.
Miss Logan was my algebra teacher at CCHS my junior and senior years. She was a gentle and kind woman as well as an excellent teacher. I fondly remember her and greatly appreciate the opportunity to have had her as a teacher. My prayers are with your family.
