A service in Flora will be held in the Spring of 2015 and will be announced.
Dorothy Mitchell Donahue passed away November 28, 2014 in Colorado Springs after a lengthy illness. She was 93.
Mrs. Donahue was preceded in death by her parents, Loren E. Mitchell and Olive Gilliland Mitchell; her husband, John W. "Jack" Donahue; and her sister, Louise Mitchell Woods.
She is survived by her children, John Mitchell Donahue of New Orleans and Jill Donahue Reid and Julie Donahue Pfarrer, both of Black Forest, Colorado.
Mrs. Donahue was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She attended Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee, East Tennessee State Teachers College and the University of Illinois. She met and married Jack Donahue while he was an Army Air Corp aviation cadet. Together, they spent the next 24 years in the Air Corp/Air Force which included two tours in the Alaskan Territory.
In 1966, Lt Col Donahue retired from active duty and they moved to East Tennessee where he accepted an executive position with Eastman Kodak. When her husband passed away, she moved to Colorado to be close to her daughters. There, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In 1995, she joined and remained an active member of the Jeanne Taylor Parkinson's Support Group until her medical condition kept her homebound.
Mrs. Donahue was a lifelong fan of classical music---opera in particular---antiques and the outdoors; and in her day she was an expert marksman and an avid snow skier, equestrian, camper, and world traveler. She was a musician herself; she played the piano and the flute and piccolo in Science Hill High School's marching band. She passed along her love of music to her children. She took pride in her family roots in early 17th century America.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, Illinois, alongside her husband and three earlier generations of her family. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Colorado Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1155 Kelly Johnson Blvd., Suite 111, Colorado Springs, CO 80920.
