Bertha May Thompson, age 84, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Bertha was born September 19, 1930 in Rochester, New York to Carlin and Alice (Chadwick) Smith. She married Irving LeFever and he preceded her in death. She later married Sam Thompson on April 9, 1955 in San Diego, California. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2001. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Salem. Bertha loved unconditionally, devoting herself to home life and caring for her family. She shared laughter with everyone making others feel good.
Bertha is survived by her daughter: Helen (Ken) Markham of Flora; 2 sons: Ted (Deb) Thompson of Flora and Rob (Vicki) Thompson of Clay City; sister: Margaret Butts of Flora; daughter-in-law: Carol LeFever of Clay City; 2 sisters-in-law: Imogene Cox of Flora and Marjorie Thompson of Clay City; special friend: Linda Daugherty of Louisville; along with 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter: Karen Hunt, a son: David LeFever, 3 sisters, and 4 grandchildren.
A funeral service for Bertha Thompson will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Rusk Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. I am so so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful lady. It was such a joy getting to know Ms. Bert the 11 months I knew her at Heritage Woods. She was so sweet and kind and funny. She will certainly be missed by everyone who knew her.
