Robert W. "Bob" Koons, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Bob was born May 17, 1936 in Flora to Clarence Edward and Lenora May (Tate) Koons. He worked for the Flora Police Department for 24 years retiring as Sergeant and Investigator and later worked in the Probation Program. Bob attended the Flora Church of the Nazarene, served on the Police Pension Board, and was an ESDA member. He was a musician, playing guitar, fiddle and mandolin, and played music at the Hub for many years. Bob was also great with electronics and was a ham radio operator. Since retirement, Bob enjoyed making trips to Texas.
Surviving are his children: Debra (Kenneth) Lesnowski of Chicago, Wayne Koons of Newburgh, IN, and John (Cheryl) Koons of Racine, WI; 1 granddaughter: Eleanor; 1 brother: Leslie Koons of Flora; special friends: Larry and Carol Robinson of New Hudson, MI and their granddaughters Kristin and Kinsey; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Earl, Fred, Orvil, and Bernice Koons, and 3 sisters: Opal Swanson, Louise Brock, and Sylvia Barnes.
A funeral service for Robert “Bob” Koons will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Memorial donations may be made to Flora Police Department’s “Shop with a Cop” Program and will be accepted at the funeral home. We want to express our sympathy on the passing of Bob. Tom worked with Bob for several years at the police department and tells of some funny stories. Bob will be greatly missing.
I worked with Bob for a bit at the Flora PD. He was always a gentleman. My condolences to his family.

Carol and Larry, Just know I am thinking of you both at this time. I know that Bob was a dear friend to you two. Hold on to those good memories that you all shared together and he will always be in your heart. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and a real sweet person. He will be missed!
Bob is my uncle (brother of my dad-Earl Koons). I just learned of his home going and wish I could have been there. I have good memories of a past visit (2009) with Bob and many special pictures. He was a special uncle, to me, that I will always remember & miss. I am sorry, (Debra, family and friends) for your loss & I pray, you receive God's comfort, in the days, to come. God bless you.
I really enjoyed working with Bob at the Flora Police Dept. We worked for many years together. I'm sure he will be missed by all.
