Dorothy Lee Richars, age 80, of Pana, Illinois, formerly of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Gowin Parc in Pana.
Dorothy was born August 24, 1934 in Flora to James and Rena (York) McBride. She married Neil Eugene Richars on January 1, 1953 in Pocahontas, AR. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2012. Dorothy’s most important work in life was raising her family. She was of the Methodist faith and because Dorothy loved to share the gift of song, she participated in the church choirs. She and her siblings sang from an early age and she later performed in a trio.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Lee Ann (Steve) DeClerck of Pana, IL, Janis (Alan) Miller of Bettendorf, IA, Tony (Judy) Richars of Flora, IL, Mike (Ingrid) Richars of Coral Springs, FL, and Andy Richars of Decatur, IL; a brother: Robert McBride of Kettering, OH; a sister: Mary Emma Venegoni of St. Louis, MO; a brother-in-law: Kenneth Duane Richars of Ballwin, MO; along with 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother: James McBride, and a sister: Doris Barth.
A funeral service for Dorothy Richars will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association or Flora First United Methodist Church and will be received at the funeral home. My condolence and prayers go out to the family. I did get to see Dorothy and Neil at our 60th high school reunion. Neil was one of the users at my wedding. We always kept in contact with Christmas cards. Velma Price

LeAnn, Janice, Tony, Mike and Andy - all spouses, kids and kid's kids We are so sorry about Dorothy. I know exactly how it feels with such and empty place in your heart and overwhelming sadness. You all have so many great memories and each other to help you through. I am sorry we can not be there to support you over the next several days. I know you will all be fine. So very sorry to hear about Dorothy passing. She was a long time friend that always had a smile and hug for me whenever I was fortunate to be around her. Susan and I will keep you in our prayers.
Lee Ann, Janis, Tony,Mike, and Andy: I was sorry to hear about the death of your mom. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to the visitation or funeral. My condolences to the family. I did not know Dorothy well, but she was obviously a very nice lady. I knew Neil well through the Masonic Lodge. I was one of many who was mentored by Neil. My wife Ruthie was honored to decorate a nice retirement cake for him when he retired as District Deputy. I know Neil and Dorothy both enjoyed that.
