Clara Mae Pierson, age 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
Clara was born on May 1, 1937 in Marion County to Frank and Bertha (Sutton) Felty. She married Earl Kent Pierson on August 6, 1954 in Flora and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Clara was a long time and active member of the First Baptist Church in Flora, and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Business and Professional Women, Home Extension, and the Red Hat Society. She operated a ceramic shop for several years as well as a jean shop. Clara found joy in needlepointing, drawing, and painting, and her love of flowers and gardening led her to work many years for the Flora Greenhouse and Lucille’s Flower Shop. She also loved to travel and enjoyed taking cruises whenever possible.
She is survived by her husband: Earl Kent Pierson of Flora; daughter: Rebecca (Rick) Williams of Decatur; son: Michael Kent Pierson of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Pearce of Flora, Jarred (Patricia) Pearce of Mt. Vernon, IN, Hayley Pearce (Gerald Hayes) of Charleston, and Lacy Scales of Flora; 7 great-grandchildren: Jonas Murphy, Carson Hayes, Audrey Hayes, Anna Pearce, Julian Scales, Laurel Hayes, and Zoey Pearce; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant child, 3 brothers: Roy, Glen, and Frank Felty, and 3 sisters: Esther Armstrong, Audrey Moore, and Marjorie Makarczyk.
A funeral service for Clara Pierson will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Pastor Charles Warger officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church or Clay County Cancer Crusaders and will be accepted at the funeral home. To share a condolence, visit www.frankandbright.com.
So sorry to hear about Aunt Clara's passing. I won't be able to make it back to IL from KS for the visitation or funeral but know and understand that her smile, laugh & ornery ways will live in my heart forever. She will be so greatly missed. To Uncle Earl, Becky, Michael, and all other family members my heartfelt condolences & prayers for comfort are being sent your way.

Earl, Becky and Mike, I always enjoyed visiting with Clara at church. She had such bright, happy, funny and ornery things to say. She was always a happy person for all of the years that we worshiped together in Flora. I know she will be missed, - and I will miss seeing her when I visit church on my return trips. Her happy laughter will now be shared with angels.

It's heartbreaking to have to say goodbye to another member of the Class of '55. I've enjoyed knowing Clara since we were in high school together. She was jolly good fun and I'll miss visiting with her on my trips to Flora. May she rest in peace in heavenly arms.
Earl and family - I am so very sorry. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. We had a lot of good times together. I am so glad I got to visit with her not to long ago.
Words can not come to me as how bad i feel ,, she was surely a wonderful patient and kind lady and had a heart as big as this whole earth.. GOd has an angel with him now to help decorate more of His heaven with beautiful flowers and creative crafts. Dear Earl, Becky, & Mike, As we remember the good times we shared at Trago Lake, in HCE, and visiting during the years, we offer our sincere sympathy. Clara was a fun loving person and a woman of faith. She will be missed by all who knew her.
I will miss Clara and her upbeat attitude in spite of her health problems. God bless Earl and the rest of the family!
