Johnny Sherman

veteranMar 1st, 1924 - May 31st, 2015

Funeral:  2 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home

Visitation:  12-2 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home

Johnny Sherman, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Johnny was born March 1, 1924 in California.  He married Shirley Treadman in 1970.  Johnny was retired from Stephens Chemical and U.S. Steel in Joliet and served in the U.S. Army, during World War II, in Panama, India, and England.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and was of the Protestant faith.  Johnny was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time in his garden.  It takes a special kind of person to fill another man’s shoes that had passed away.  John did the best that he could the day he became our father.  We loved him, thanked him, and will never forget him.  He will remain in our hearts for evermore.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Ferguson Sherman of Louisville; 5 sons: Robert J. Sherman, Jerry Lee Ferguson Jr., Kenneth Ferguson, Jeffrey Ferguson, and Ernest Ferguson; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

A funeral service for Johnny Sherman will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Pastor Mike Evans officiating.  Visitation will be from 12 (noon) until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.  Military honors will be presented at the service.  Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church and will be received at the funeral home.

R.I.p Papa. I love you to the moon & back. Your resting now, in a better place. I asked somebody why yesterday. Why god took somebody important. & he said god wants to take all the good people up with to be with him because in the bible god said that when the world ends. Its going to end in a blazing fire because the devil is going to take over. I just thought that that couldn't be more true. Love you. & or rest in paradise.
