Nora E. Greenwood, age 94, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Nora was born February 23, 1921 in Wayne County to Ernest and Jennie (Cole) Flexter. She married Rolla Dee “Sug” Greenwood on May 2, 1939 in Barlow, KY. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1989. Nora was a homemaker and a long time member of Bethlehem Christian Church. She was baptized by Howard Yonaka at the First Christian Church in January 1953. Later in life, she enrolled in a program, successfully earning her GED and went on to complete the writing of her autobiography. In the past, Nora participated in the Flora Senior Citizens, Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing Pinochle.
She is survived by two sons: Richard (Daryl) Greenwood of St. Cloud, FL and Thomas (Connie) Greenwood of Flora; two daughters: Judy (Ralph) Baity of Flora and Alice (Ervin) Zimmer of Arvada, CO; one brother: Leo Flexter of Washington, IN; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother: Ora Flexter, one sister: Luella Coble, and two grandsons.
A funeral service for Nora Greenwood will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Bethlehem Christian Church Sound System Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.frankandbright.com.
Words can't even say how sad I am to hear this. Nora was such a great lady! I loved going out there and talking to her. My daughter Madison loved her as well and loved being around her. Se is gona miss her so much. She would always talk about Nora. And one of her favorite things to do with her was to play dominos. Prayers to her son Tom and Connie. She will be missed by many!
Nora has been my mother in law for 32 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother! She was a strong women, life was not always easy. She always stood by her man, by her family, and next to God. Thanks for the wonderful example you set for your family and for my children. I'm sure pops was waiting for her. What a good reunion in heaven. Tom, Dick, Alice, Judy and families. My God comfort and keep you during this difficult time.

So sorry for the lose of this great lady. I was in the same GED class as her and I believe she was the oldest in the class but scored the highest in the verbal spelling part of it. She was so kind to everyone and an inspiration to me.
It was an honor & a joy to meet Nora. She was a wonderful lady! You may not know this but she truly was proud of all her children & grandchildren, she spoke of all of you often. Nora will be greatly missed.

I remember Nora so well - what a lovely woman. She and my mother were the same age and we lived just down the road from them. Her son Richard and I were the same age and literally grew up together. My condolences to the family. May God give you peace and comfort during this time of loss.
