Franklin “Lee” Goodwin, age 79, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015, at his home in Flora.
Lee was born September 22, 1936 in Poplar Bluff, MO to John Thomas and Ella Mae (Shelton) Goodwin. He married Virginia L. “Pat” Lane on June 7, 1961 in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2008.
Despite an aversion to water, Lee bravely enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the first crew of the U.S.S. Holland in 1963, served during the Vietnam War, and after 20 years of service, finished with the rank of HMC. Lee began working at Minwax in 1976, where he remained for over 20 years as a production coordinator. He enjoyed gardening, clipping circulars to fill his coupon wallet, and developed an avid interest in computers and technology. You could catch him following the stock market daily on the computer and CNBC. After making a very important decision this year, Lee requested to be baptized by Pastor Ernie Lewis. His memberships included the Flora American Legion, VFW, Moose, and Eagles.
He is survived by his children: Terri (Aaron) Landreth of Louisville, Mark (Samantha) Goodwin of Evansville, IN, and Kimberly (Paul) Hill of Cisne; 8 grandchildren: Justin, Katie, Jonathan, Noah, Ellie, Ashly, Cheyenne, and Madison; and 8 great-grandchildren: Jayce, Alexa, Maya, Audrey, William, Lilly, Kinsley, and Brintley. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother: Henry Goodwin, and one sister: Hazel Shelton.
