Esther E. Smith, age 86, of Louisville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015, at her home.  Esther was born January 2, 1929, in Louisville, the daughter of Eddie A. “Coon” and Vena P. (Combs) Howell.  She was united in marriage to Andy E. Smith on December 31, 1956, in Booneville, Mississippi.  He preceded her in death January 18, 2000.

 

   Esther worked as a civil service switchboard operator.  She was a member of Red Brush Christian Church, and a past member of Eastern Star in Farina.  Esther attended Farina schools, and fondly remembered her days as a majorette in high school.  She enjoyed attending horse shows and following the activities of her grandchildren, and loved her dogs.

 

   She is survived by a son: Lyndon L. (Bobbie) Smith of Louisville; a stepson: Kelvin K. (Carol) Smith of Midland, Texas; a son-in-law: Rodney Grushkowsky of The Woodlands, Texas; 7 grandchildren: Kymberli Grushkowsky, Christopher Grushkowsky, Matthew (Jordan) Smith, Marissa Smith, Timothy A. Smith, Tonya C. Marie Smith, and Dakota Greenwood; adopted grandson: Lance Harrington; a cousin: Louise Bill; and a great-nephew: Donald Howell.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Jeri Grushkowsky, 2 brothers: Harley and Donald Howell; and an infant sister.

 

   A funeral service for Esther Smith will be held 12 noon, Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Red Brush Christian Church in Louisville.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 12 noon Saturday at the church.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.  Memorials are suggested to Oil Belt Christian Service Camp Activity Center Fund.  Share online condolences and memories with the family at www.frankandbright.com.
