Interment: Elmwood Cemetery
Douglas Corry, age 55, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Wednesday night, March 23, 2016, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Doug was born March 18, 1961, in Flora, the son of Dean and Kay (Edwards) Corry. He was united in marriage to Christie Flexter on August 24, 1990, and they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year.
Doug was a paint engineering technician for North American Lighting in Salem, where he had worked for over 30 years. Trains were one of his favorite hobbies, and he was especially proud of helping with the construction work involved in bringing the Little Toot Railroad back to Charley Brown Park in the late 1990’s. He was skilled at designing and building things including special pieces of furniture, was an experimental cook in the kitchen, and was always eager to spend time gardening. Catching a broadcast of a Cardinal baseball game could be one of the best parts of Doug’s day, along with valuable memories made while spending time with his children and grandchildren. Doug’s spiritual roots were established during his youth as part of the First Christian Church in Flora.
He is survived by his wife: Christie Corry of Flora; 4 children: Joslin Corry, James Corry, Alisha Corry, and William Corry, all of Flora; 3 grandchildren: Cooper Hoffman, Kaylynn Corry, and Arianna Kellison; a brother: John (Marla) Corry of Carlyle; a sister: Kysa (David) Epstein of South Elgin; mother in-law: Roberta Roberts of Cisne; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service for Doug Corry will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Bill Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Little Toot Railroad for a turntable project that Doug helped envision, and these donations will be accepted through the funeral home. Dear uncle Doug, you left the word too early. God must of had a train and tracks that needed repaired or he may have had a few buildings he needed you to help with. You are gone but will never be forgotten. Many hearts broken, tears shed and questions asked that only the good lord above has the answers. Be good up there and conduct that train like any other conductors wish they could. Miss you now and forever. I love you uncle Doug!

For as long as I can remember uncle Doug was part of my life. I always spent lots of time at his house and on occasion even lived there with the family. He was probably the first person to teach me to not be afraid to try new things, which was usually food in his case. He also taught me to always do my best. The biggest thing I remember about him is that he still loved his wife the same as the day he married her. This was good because she was my aunt and best friend. He was a wonderful man, husband, father, and grandfather and in my case uncle. He will certainly be missed by all. Prayers for his wife and children
