Bill Joseph “Joe” Williams, age 85, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at his home in Flora.
Joe was born September 18, 1930 in Clay County, Illinois, to Pearley and Faye (Staley) Williams. He married Jeannine McGrew on June 28, 1953, in Petersburg, Virginia, where Joe served in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Lee and later in Germany during the Korean Conflict. To this marriage five children were born. Joe was a lifetime farmer and served two terms as Stanford Township Road Commissioner. Joe was of the Protestant faith, being saved and baptized as a young man at the old Oak Grove Church, and rededicating his life in 2015. He was a beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years: Jeannine Williams of Flora; children: Jo Ellen “Jess” Michaels of Flora, Joan (David) Mulvany of Wilsonville, Oregon, Beverly (David) Wood of Flora, and David Williams of Monroe City, Indiana; grandchildren: Blake (Daphne) McCormack, Erin Mulvany, Malerie (Corey) Knop, Ryan (Meghan) Mulvany, Daniel Williams, Megan (Micah) Brown, Jason Covey, Gabriel (Jennifer) Williams, and Noah (Deborah) Williams; great-grandchildren: Brianna, Madalyn, Gavin, Ashton, Serena, and Wyatt; sisters: Betty (Ranard) Greenwood and Lillie Kneff; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby “Little One”; four brothers: Ben, Roy, Frank and Otis Williams; and a sister: Flossie Kneff.
A funeral service for Joe Williams will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Flora Church of the Nazarene, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in Bunker Cemetery, Rinard, with military honors. Arrangements are in the care of Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora. Memorial donations may be given to Flora Church of the Nazarene, Clay County Hospice for their gentle loving care, or Fur a Good Paws because of Joe’s love for animals. I remember spending weekends at your house and how patient he was with two giggling girls that liked to follow him around. I felt like a part of your family. He was such a kind and gentle man and I will keep you all in my prayers. Rest in peace!

I am so very glad that I got to meet my cousin Joe back in 2008. I would have loved to have been able to see him again, but I am thankful for that visit. Jeannine, you and your family are in my prayers.

So sorry about Joe. I will always remember him as Mr Santa for al of us. My kids even said that when I told them about Joes passing. I wont be able to come over Thursday I will be working and have two girls off but I will be thinking of you all. Miss seeing you so much
