Mildred Hamilton, age 87, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 6, 2016.
Mildred was born in Clay City, Illinois, on September 28, 1928, the daughter of Frank A. Neff Jr. and Minnie (Bates) Neff. She attended a small one room school house until high school where she graduated from Clay City High School with a Home Economics Award in 1946.
She married Earl “Hambone” Hamilton on October 18, 1947, and they had five children which they raised on a small farm north of Flora.
Mildred loved her family so much that she would tell everyone how many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren that she had. Cooking for them and having them all around her made her the happiest.
She was baptized into Christ in 1943 and was a life-long member of Bethlehem Christian Church. With her passion of cooking an entertaining she would have the preachers and their families over for Sunday dinner.
She is survived by children: Mike Hamilton, Ava Siterlet, Trudy (David) Koontz, Greg (Deanna) Hamilton, and Kim (Shari) Hamilton; one sister: Leone (the late Charles W.) Cox; along with 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents: Frank and Minnie Neff, and sisters: Hazel Neff and Velma (Dale) Frost.
A funeral service for Mildred Hamilton will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Mark Luzadder officiating. Burial will be in Kneff Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorial donations in Mildred’s memory may be given to Bethlehem Christian Church or Oil Belt Christian Service Camp, and these will be accepted at the funeral home.

I met Mildred when I went to work at JC Penney in Flora in the 70's. She was one of the sweetest people I ever had the pleasure to work with. She not only taught me how to do my job as cashier, she was an inspiration of how a Christian is to live their life. Although we only worked together a few years, I have never forgotten her. My sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. She is now an angel in Heaven watching over her family.
So many fond memories of Mildred working at my Dad's store (Hobbs Grocery). She has a special place in our hearts and in heaven.

Greg, Kim, Trudy, and Ava: I am sorry that I missed the visitation. My wife usually watches the obits but she hadn't looked for several days, and so I missed hearing about Mildred in time. No doubt you have all heard many stories from various people about their connection and experiences with your mother, but I would like to share with you how I best remember your mother and how much I appreciated your mother back when I was attending Bethlehem church at the end of high school. Right after church there was many a time that Greg would ask Hambone if I (and Murph and Tom Greenwood) could come eat Sunday dinner with your family after church, and Hambone would say it was okay with him if it was okay with your mother. Then Greg would go to your mother and ask her and she would say why sure, that was fine - there's plenty of food for everybody. I can remember sitting at your table and we guys would be cutting up, and your mother would just laugh at how silly we were. She truly enjoyed having her entire family and their friends gathered with her, and she and Hambone made us guys feel like we were part of your family, to the point that I called your dad Pops and your mother Mom. That is how I best remember your mother, and she will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. May God bless you, Barry Bright
