Margarita Gonzalez of Xenia, Illinois, passed away with loving family by her side on Saturday morning, July 16, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was 61.
She was born September 30, 1954, in Jerez, Mexico, the daughter of Manuel and Eva (Garcia) Cabral. On June 3, 1972, she married George E. Gonzalez, and together they have celebrated 44 anniversaries.
Margarita was employed at Minwax for 22 years. Her life’s most important priority was her family and the significance of loyalty to others. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. “God is within everything,” are words she thoughtfully shared when expressing faith, and recalling the beauty she saw in flowers, hummingbirds, and all of nature.
She is survived by her husband: George Gonzalez of Xenia; 3 children: Pablo E. (Jenna) Gonzalez of Madison, AL, Carlos E. (Vanessa) Gonzalez of Chicago, and Claudia J. (Brian) Long of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren: Andrew A. Gonzalez, Viridiana Gonzalez, Julian E. Gonzalez, Arianna Gonzalez, Ayla Marlee Long, and Gonzalez twin boys who are expected later this autumn; siblings: Rito (Anna Maria) Cabral of Chicago, Jaime (Luz) Cabral of Columbia, TN, Marcos M. (Patricia) Cabral of Columbia, TN; Manuel (Cristina) Cabral of Chicago, Eva (Jorge) Gonzalez of Xenia, Soledad (Alex) Albarran of Houston, TX, and Jose A. Cabral of Chicago; as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Martha Hernandez.
A celebration of Margarita’s life will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory, donations are encouraged to Good Samaritan Regional Health Center Foundation, and will be accepted through the funeral home. I lit a candle for my friend Maggie. She was one of the best people I have ever known. She took me to my first play. She was one of a kind, and will sadly be missed by a lot of people. I am just sooo glad she doesn't have to struggle to breathe anymore! RIP, Maggie! Thinking of you and your family.
Margarita was welcoming us into her family before Pablo & Jenna were even married. Margarita and Jorgie invited us into their home for dinner when we were exhausted from moving Pablo & Jenna into their new home. She told me that we were co-madres now, at the end of the kids wedding day. She was very protective and caring of all of her kids. Don and I are happy to have been her friends and family! We pray that the pain of her passing will be lessened by the great memories of wonderful family vacations, and holidays spent together, even as recently on the 4th of July, when she was laughing and joking and planning the baby shower for the twins. Gods speed on your way to Heaven Dear Margarita. 🙏
