Hubert V. McCormack, age 86, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016, at his home.
Hubert V. McCormack was born October 18, 1930, in Wayne County, Illinois, to William and Lucinda “Cindy” (Cantrell) McCormick. He married Ruth Marie (Staley) McCormack on April 8, 1962, at First Christian Church. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2015.
Hubert was a good husband, father, and friend. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family. He loved to fish and hunt, and liked growing vegetables in his garden. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, especially Ricky Skaggs and watching westerns and baseball games. Hubert served as the Post Commander for Flora VFW Post #3999. He served as an engineer in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at Valley Steel and later JenMar until his retirement in the mid-1990s. Then for a short time he worked at Wal-Mart in Flora.
Hubert is survived by two sons: Richard (Donna) McCormack of Clay City and Danny (Denise) McCormack of Salem; a daughter: Tina McCormack of Flora; a brother: Charles (Coline) McCormack Xenia; and grandchildren: Blake (Daphne) McCormack, Malerie (Corey) Knop, Alyssa and Olivia McCormack, Sarah (Greg) Richardson, Samantha (Austin) Walker, Amanda Czyzewski, and Zacaria Wasion; great-grandchildren: Brianna, Ashton, Serena, and Ian McCormack, Maddie, Gavin, and Dylan Knop, Jacob and Micah Walker, Charlotte Richardson, and Jake Wasion; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; six sisters: Madge Gragert, Oakley Copelin, Arty Miss Fatheree, Georgia Stengel, Lucille Bailey, and Anna Mae Griffith; and four brothers: Arlie McCormick, Archie McCormick, Chet McCormick, Francis McCormick.
Funeral services for Hubert McCormack will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the presentation of military funeral honors. Visitation will be from 11 am until time of service on Wednesday. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Flora Public Library, and these will be accepted through the funeral home. We are so sorry for your loss. Hubert was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I have so many great memories of him. He will be missed by many.

My condolences over your loss of Hubert. I knew him to be a kind gentle man when I worked at Valley Steel quite some time ago.
Dale worked with Hubert and Charlie at Valley Steel and I worked with Hubert and Charlie at Walmart. Hubert never knew a stranger. He was a happy and kind man, always made time to come and talk to me any time we met. May God be with his family and all who suffer from his loss.
