Blanche I. Akes, age 93, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Blanche was born July 8, 1923, in Xenia, the daughter of Kirby L. and Laura (Lee) Akes. She loved her family, her kids, and grandkids. Blanche babysat over the years and loved the little children she cared for. She was of the Baptist faith; loved to play cards and going places; and enjoyed having her fingernails painted.
Blanche is survived by a son: Edward “Butch” (Velma) Akes of Xenia, and children Tim (Danielle) Akes of Affton, MO, with sons Talon and Tristan Akes, and Ginger (Nick) Rasar of Loudin, TN, with son Race, along with several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter: Nancy Coughlin of Xenia, and children Deborah (Larry) Carson of Charleston, SC, with son Trey Carson, and Kelly (Kathy) Coughlin of Iuka, and children Kiley and Kara Coughlin; 2 sisters: Mary Winters of Salem, and Margaret Fleischman of Baytown, TX; along with many nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to her caregiver, Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Edna Baity, Velma Lenington, Jane Harmon, Laura Griffith, Eddie Akes, Alice Hambough, and Norma K. Henson; and son-in-law: Dan Coughlin.
A funeral service for Blanche Akes will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with visitation from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia. Memorial donations may be given to Clay County Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

One of the few people I entrusted my kids with when they were little, always thought a lot of her, and know that she will be missed by many, but especially by her family, may God comfort all of you at this time.
