Donna Kay Moran, age 73, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Flora, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017, at her home.
Donna was born September 19, 1943, in Blue Island, the daughter of William Gene and Margaret (Wigginton) Moore. She was proud of the time spent as a stay-at-home mom raising her family. Donna worked with developmentally delayed adults at Community Support Systems (formerly ARC), and in the past at the Flora Opportunity Center. She also owned and operated Dona-Mo’s Pizza in Altamont. She was a current member of Jackson Township Baptist Church in Effingham and a past member of Oak Street Baptist Church in Flora. Donna was a Cub Scout leader, assistant Xenia librarian, was on the planning board for S.W.A.N., a past member of B.P.W., and had Chamber of Commerce involvement. She owned and operated Playskool, the first licensed day care in Clay County, and the first designated Safe House in Clay County. She also received one vote for president in the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election, and was a lover of sarcasm. Donna enjoyed going to resale shops and yard sales, and caring for the many cats and dogs she had over the years.
She is survived by her children: Darren (Debbie) Sheehan of Bloomington, Randen (Pennie) Sheehan of Boerne, TX, Erica (Donnie) Simpson of Cisne, Wayne (Neeley) Moran, Jr. of Effingham, and Ben (Sara) Moran of Effingham; 2 sisters: Joyce (Nick) Blume of Orlando, FL, and Margene (Richard) Burmeister of Flora; 1 brother: Jeffrey (Connie) Moore of Flora; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends and co-workers that assisted, allowing her to stay in her home the final days of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Barbara Mislich.
A funeral service for Donna Moran will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be given to Community Support Systems and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
