Lorene Cunningham Cannon, age 98, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, January 8, 2017, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.
Lorene was born November 9, 1918, in Wayne County, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Wilson) Cunningham. She married Joseph Franklin Cannon on June 11, 1938, in Morganfield, KY. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1984.
Lorene worked 31 years as personnel clerk for Flora and Olney International Shoe Factories. She was of the Presbyterian faith and attended Flora First United Methodist Church. Lorene was active in the community with memberships with Clay County Senior Citizens, Moose Auxiliary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was a widow member of the Elks.
She is survived by her son: Leslie Cannon and wife Donna of Henderson, KY; a step-son: Verdane Cannon of New Athens; 2 grandsons: Bradley Cannon and Bret Cannon; and 3 great-grandchildren: Kimberly, Brandon, and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers: Clyde, Howard, Wayne, and Dean; 1 sister: Mary Pearl; and 2 step-grandsons.
A funeral service for Lorene Cannon will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with a visitation from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice, and these will be accepted at the funeral home.
Saddened to learn of this passing, but 98 is a life well lived. I enjoyed visiting with her every Sunday I managed to be at church on visits to Flora. May she rest in peace. Medley Gatewood

SORRY TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OF AUNT LORENE. SHE WAS MY DAD'S ONLY SISTER. WE WILL MISS HER BUT WILL KNOW SHE IS IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH LESLIE AND DONNA AT THIS TIME. WE LOVE YOU ALL.

Talked to your mother several times on her luncheon outings, she was such a joy to be around, a shining light to those who were around her, seemingly was always happy, and had a great sense of humor. She will be missed by many!!!
Lorene used to be our neighbor. Very kind and sweet lady. Keeping the family in our prayers. Very sorry for your loss.
